The Ending

I have to say I'm very disappointed with the ending. I hate happy endings and the ending was very cliched. With all the twists and turns and the weird mix of Jim and Huck you would expect something different then everything working out perfectly. Jim and Huck were free all along! They basically went on this long adventure and faced hardships for no cause. Almost makes the book seem worthless, like what was the point of reading the book in the first place? After reading this book I don't think I'll ever read a book written by Mark Twain. Overall the book was ok but the ending just killed it. Maybe I'm being harsh but the ending is a very important part of a book and Mark Twain FAILED miserably.

  1. Almost everyone hates the ending but I still have to stand up for Mark Twain (even though he tricked me in the ending). Twain is a ironic and sarcastic writer. The novel had to have a twist, and no one can say that they were expecting the twist was Jim had always been free. One point I didn't like about the ending was how everything was solved in the last two pages. The connection between the dead man in the earlier chapter was another great twist but i wish it was more spread out.

  2. I disagree, I felt it was a good ending with an ironic twist at the end. You are being to harsh. You may not like happy endings however I think that if done right they can be enjoyabe. The twist at the end made it a great ending.

  3. I liked the ending because I felt surprised. I didn't think the ending was going to be about Jim becoming free, and Pap ending up already dead.

  4. I agree with you 100%, i thought there would be a better ending. To tell you the truth i thought Huck was going to kill his own father, the ending would have been way better.

  5. Gentrit, I completely agree with you. I was also very dissapointed with the ending. Mark Twain was very good at using irony, but who would've known that the biggest irony completely elminated the purpose of reading the book- that huck and jim were free all along. Anyways, I don't think I'll be reading anymore Mark Twain books either.

  6. I do not agree with Gentrit at all. I thought that the ending was the most important and interesting part of the book. It was very ironic and no one excpect the book to end the way it did.

  7. I AGREE WITH Gentrit D. THAT WASN'T THE BEST ENDING I HAVE EVER READ. I BELIEVE THE ENDING COULD'VE BEEN MUCH BETTER. I DISLIKE THE WAY HOW JIM AND HUCK WAS FREE ALL ALONG, BUT I HAVE TO SAY SOMETIMES THESE KIND OF THINGS HAPPENS. I WISH THAT MARK TWAIN COULD OF EXPANDED THE BOOK MUCH BETTER.

  8. I do understand why people would be very disapointed with the ending of HuckFinn. To me everything did seem unrealistic at the end but I dont think it took anything away from the novel. Although having been free all along Huck and Jim shared a special bond on the adventures. So it does not make the book worthless or the adventures they went on worthless.

  10. I do agree with you Gentrit because the ending seemed like the whole journey with Huck and Jim was for nothing because they were free all along. However, I do feel like although the ending was dissapointing, the journey helped to strengthen the Jim and Huck's friendship, and allowed Huck to better understand the principles of society.

  12. I disagree. I think the end suits the book. It is very ironic and unexpected. Maybe Mark Twain wants to show that Huckleberry Finn is not mainly about adventures.

  13. I think that you are overreacting. it's just a book and not all of Mark Twian's book have the same idea or the same ending to it. So i think that maybe you should read more books!!!
